Overview

Creating watercolor illustrations in Procreate has become increasingly effortless, thanks to the myriad of custom brushes readily available in the market today. However, the challenge lies in determining how to utilize them effectively to achieve the desired natural media effect.

Are you a traditional watercolor artist with a penchant for floral designs, or do you lean towards a more contemporary aesthetic? Perhaps you're a digital artist who prefers not to delve into the intricacies of traditional mediums but desires to replicate a classic watercolor appearance. Regardless of your preference, I am excited to share that I have developed visually captivating watercolor flowers with a distinctive abstracted allure. I cordially extend an invitation to join me in honing our digital illustration skills and collaborating on a Procreate project together.

In this "Watercolor Floral Art" tutorial, I guide you through creating a vibrant design suitable for large wall art, tapestries, phone cases, and even shower curtains. I provide custom brushes for you to use and demonstrate how to achieve an impressive final look. These abstract floral pieces are versatile and look great on various items.

What's more, this art piece is genuinely original, made with "hand-made" watercolors, and I walk you through creating your own brushes. You'll have no trouble achieving the varied saturation inherent in watercolor work, and we'll even create authentic watercolor blooms together.

Now, what exactly are "blooms," you may wonder? They are flow marks formed when liquid is applied to a drying wash. These unpredictable textures are also referred to as blossoms, backruns, or florets, all describing the same phenomenon. They occur due to the natural tendency of water to seek equilibrium, where wet paint flows towards drier areas. Although replicating this digitally requires practice, I provide you with my original DeloresArt brush called "blenderrific" as part of the set of 25 brushes for you to experiment with.

These Procreate lessons are an ideal environment to develop watercolor painting skills in an instinctive and intuitive manner. I offer guidance on file management, ensuring you can save and revisit previous versions as needed. Whether you're a professional artist/illustrator or simply enjoy creating art for leisure, this class is designed for you. Take a look at my Watercolor Inspirations Pinterest board for inspiration, and envision the artwork you'll be capable of producing after completing this course.

You don't need prior drawing or watercolor experience, just an open mind, a willingness to learn and take risks, and the desire to have a great time!

In this upcoming course, I plan to cover the following key concepts:

  • Evaluation of my painting methods and the crafting of floral elements
  • Examination of Procreate brushes and their unique characteristics
