Overview

Want to make money online with audiobooks?

Learn how to publish your audiobooks on Audible, the leading audiobook platform from Amazon. This guide will walk you through the entire process, from preparing your audio files with Adobe Audition to uploading them on the Audiobook Creation Exchange (ACX).

Why publish on Audible?

Not only is it a massive platform with millions of listeners but it's also where I made over $10,000 in just my first year, proving it to be one of the fastest ways to earn online.

The problem is, getting an audiobook published on Audible can be a confusing process. It took me months to figure it out, with several audiobooks rejected and needing to be re-recorded.

That's why I created this guide to make things easier for you.

Let's get started!

With a recorded audio file, open Adobe Audition and follow these steps:

Reduce Background Noise

Go to Effects, then Noise Reduction/Restoration and choose Adaptive Noise Reduction.

Match Volume

Open the Loudness tab and drag your file into the match loudness settings area. Set Total RMS to -17 and Peak to -3.5.

Create an Upload-Ready File

Save the file as an mp3 at 44.1 kHz, 16 bit depth and mono. Create a preset to save time processing multiple files.

Now you're ready to upload your audiobook to ACX!

These steps ensure your audiobook meets Audible's strict quality standards, maximizing the chances of approval.

Here are the key requirements:

  • Consistent sound and formatting throughout.
  • Mono or stereo files, with mono being highly recommended.
  • Opening and closing credits.
  • A retail sample between 1 and 5 minutes long.
  • Recorded by a human.
  • 192 kbps or higher MP3 files at 44.1 kHz.
  • Chapter sections shorter than 120 minutes with section headers read aloud.
  • Silence at the beginning (0.5-1 seconds) and end (1-2 seconds) of each chapter.
  • Free of background noise like traffic or computers.
  • Average RMS between -23dB and -18dB (ideally around -20dB).
  • Peak values of -3dB.
  • Maximum noise floor of -60dB.

This guide uses Adobe Audition to meet all these requirements, making the process smooth and efficient.
